This is a red letter day at Basecamp Gallivance. No more concrete floors! Those bad boys are now completely blanketed in beautiful tile, and James and I are running around barefoot for the first time since May. We’re thrilled!
We began investigating tile floors – a totally new experience for us – and decided to take a page from my sister Ellen’s playbook: chose a large, travertine-like tile.
The key was laying the tile on the diagonal. It’s a bit trickier, but it sure makes the rooms look bigger.
Each day the installers would map out a walking path with blue painter’s tape to let us know where we were allowed to step. Fortunately this path leads to the bathroom!
Now we’ve just finished installing baseboards. At last it’s starting to feel like a house you want to live in!
We want to give a big shout-out to Tony Williams of Floors and More and his team of David and Luis who are true artisans! Not only are they incredible professionals and nice guys, they cut some of the trickiest angles we’ve ever seen.
We couldn’t be happier with the results. The new floor highlights the simplicity and easy-going feel we wanted for our new homebase.
As James said, “What planet was I on when I thought I could do this myself?”
