We can hardly believe this is the fourth year you’ve helped us ring in the New Year here at Gallivance. And what a fantastic year 2014 has been.

Our apartment is in a working class neighborhood of Florence. We love it. Like the classic Hitchcock movie Rear Window (with Jimmy Stewart nursing a broken leg) – and because we can’t always be tourists – we have some time to observe our backdoor neighbors.
Florence, the epicenter for the Italian Renaissance, is absolutely chock-a-block with masterpieces. Paintings and sculptures dominate the list, but sculptor and goldsmith Lorenzo Ghiberti used a slightly different medium … doors.
There’s something irresistible about a bride, decked out in her wedding finery. Whether she’s wearing a silken sari in Sri Lanka, or a lacy gown in Spain, you can’t help but smile. James says I take the best photos of the backs of brides.
