As you may remember, Jo over at Restlessjo invited us to enter some of our photographs in Capture the Colour 2013. Thanks to you we’ve knocked out BLUE, GREEN and RED.
Yesterday’s choice produced a dead heat in the RED category, but in the end the Heliconia pulled away and took the lead to win. (If you’re playing catch-up, just check it out here.)
Now we’re ready for WHITE – a tricky choice. But we love a challenge, so here goes. Please let us know in the Comments which photo you think we should submit.
Many Thanks,
Terri and James
P.S. Tomorrow we’ll wrap it up with our YELLOW choices. Thanks again for hanging in there!
1. The Whitewashed Windmills of Oia, Santorini
In the dictionary, next to the word “photogenic” should be a photo of one of Santorini’s whitewashed buildings. Cathedrals, houses, and windmills are all painted with stark, white paint to help reflect the harsh summer sun. Add a few splashes of color accents and a crystal blue sky above, and you have the formula for gorgeous, fool-proof photos.

2. Buddhist Wedding
When we arrived at the temple in Colombo, Sri Lanka, we could tell that a celebration was taking place. Blaring music, people chatting, and kids scurrying about wearing special-occasion clothes. A Buddhist wedding. The time-honored Sri Lankan Poruwa ceremony had already taken place. Now it was time for the newlyweds to stroll to their reception – photos would be taken … and the temple elephant would get a bath!

3. Deeply Rooted
Ta Prohm, a temple complex of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, is one of the most photographed sights in Southeast Asia. It’s a photographer’s dreamworld of 12th Century Buddhist architecture being slowly buried by the white, skeletal roots of centuries-old kapok trees, strangler figs, and giant creepers. The ruins evoke the eerie feeling of a post-apocalyptic world where nature is the clear victor.

PLEASE TELL US YOUR FAVORITE. MANY THANKS!
*** Check out our entries for Blue, Green, Red, and Yellow. And here is the Final Entry submission that you helped us choose. Thanks again!
Angkor’s Ta Prohm!
Santorini 2nd.
Thanks again Alison. As you know, Ta Prohm was like being in a secret world. I remember you got some gorgeous shots. ~Terri
#3, but I like #1 as a runner-up.
Many Thanks Brittany. The trip to Ta Prohm was otherworldly and so mysterious – loved it! ~Terri
Can’t help you this time. I like them all too much.
Thanks anyway Carol – we obviously were having the same dilemma. 🙂 Tomorrow is the last one – yellow. Maybe the choice will be obvious! ~Terri
Beautfitul.. 🙂
Thank you aurescu. So glad that you like them. 🙂 ~Terri
🙂
You’re right- it is a hard one but I’m going with Santorini. There has to be a windmill shot in there 🙂 Was ever a more photogenic spot created?
Many thanks again for your kind mention. I think you have this competition sewn up. 🙂
Thanks a bunch Jo! We were totally smitten by Santorini. I’d wanted to go ever since I was a kid and saw a poster in a local Greek pizza restaurant! 🙂 ~Terri
For me it’s the windmill – but agree with the others that they are all beautiful photos.
Thanks so much Andrea for your kind words and feedback. It’s hard to resist the charm of the iconic Santorini windmills. 🙂 ~Terri
Oh tougher by the day……white windmill Santorini.
Merci again Keiry. We’ll put you down in the Windmill column. Tomorrow is the last one – thanks for helping us out! ~Terri
Has to be the windmill (because of the sharp focus and vivid contrast).
I really like the Buddhist Wedding also, but the focus and contrast looks a little soft, which detracts from the impact of the white.
Thanks for the vote Vicki. As a photographer, it’s hard to go wrong on Santorini. The scenic views, beautiful seas, and photogenic architecture all combine to make it a photographer’s dream world. ~James
Now this is a tough one. I love Ta Prohm (never been there — it’s just haunting and fabulous) but both of the others, too. Perhaps #1 is the most artistic shot. But that’s just my opinion! Hmmm. Your choice this time, I guess! http://ohtheplaceswesee.com
Thank you Rusha – we went through the same head scratching. So far it looks like the windmill has the lead with everyone. We’ll see! ~Terri
Wow, the choices certainly are not getting any easier! 🙂 The windmill caught me straight away with those white whispy clouds behind ~ Beautiful shot.
Thanks for your input. The Santorini windmills certainly are a signature of the island – and the icing on the cake has to be the ever-present blue sky. 🙂 !Terri
Santorini for me – fits in best with the theme…..MM 🍀
Many thanks MM. Santorini will always be one of my favorite destinations – in the off-season, that is! 🙂 ~Terri
I always go with weddings. Love how the bridal party and background fit the white theme. But all three choices are magnificent!
Hey Catherine, thanks for your feedback. You and I do love those weddings we stumble across. When we picked this photo I thought of your wedding shot with the giant badminton birdie. Now there’s a good “white” entry! 🙂 ~Terri
This was especially tough as I long to go to SE Asia, but Santorini evokes images of white against an azure sky. It is #1 for me.
Thanks LuAnn. You totally nailed the description – perfect. How are things going there for you and Terry. Hopefully really well. All the best, Terri
I typically approach life is a very positive manner but must admit to being happy to see August behind us. Looking forward to better days. Hope you two are doing well.
Oh, this is tough! I would not have thought white would be so hard to choose because it’s not really a colour that jumps out of photos at me, unless they’re winter wonderlands!! I love the Buddhist wedding, but Ta Prohm is an amazing 2nd choice.
Thanks Tia. You know, we thought about winter wonderlands, but we didn’t have a single decent shot that didn’t involve me making a giant snowman, 🙂 ~Terri
The windmill is my favorite.
Hey Anita – thanks for your choice. It looks like you’re going to be knee-deep in grandbabies real soon – how wonderful! 🙂 Love, Terri
Love the deeply rooted temple but my vote would go to the windmill
Hi Joyce, thanks so much for your pick. The Santorini windmill is hard to resist (because that’s where the donkeys are 🙂 ) – and so far it seems to be the crowd favorite! Love, Terri
It’s hard to choose… my vote go to the windmill.
Thanks for the vote Amy. It looks like the windmill will blow the others away. ~James
1. The Whitewashed Windmills of Oia, Santorini
Una foto que habla por si mismo!
Gracias Farna. Santorini es un lugar muy fotogénico. ~Jaime
James and Terri,
Too bad I missed out on the other colors, I’ve been so busy this week with some upcoming work travel. I really love #2 Buddhist wedding, it’s gorgeous. I took a peek at the other pics and they are fabulous.
Thanks Chau. It was very cool to be able to see this wedding. The temple in Colombo, Sri Lanka was very busy the day we visited. Click the link below the photo to check it out. ~James
Tough one, but we’ll go with the windmill.
Thanks Pam. The windmill will always be a favorite of mine as well. A photographer can hardly go wrong in Santorini. ~James
The wedding is my pic pick! Lovely shot 🙂
Thanks for the vote Suzanne. Weddings are always beautiful, happy affairs, and it’s impossible to see one and not smile. But, this was our first Buddhist wedding, and this couple was absolutely gorgeous. ~James
My vote goes to the windmill!
Thanks for the vote. It appears that the windmill won the contest, and will be our submission. ~James
Oops, I’m too late to count, but my first choice was the windmill and my second choice the Buddhist Wedding. All great photos of course. 🙂
It’s never too late for an opinion Elaine. And you picked the right photo for numero uno. Thanks. ~James
Beautiful photos for this post. Love the photo of the overgrown temple in Angkor Wat
Thanks so much Janaline. It was such a special place, and we were lucky that very few people were there the day we went. I almost felt like we had the place to ourselves. Have you had a chance to visit? All the best, Terri
Hmmmmm tough one, but I’m going with The Whitewashed Windmills of Oia, Santorini.
Ding, ding, ding – you predicted that one right Tahira. Thanks! ~Terri
