Finland: The White Album


In the U.S., many of us are enjoying the first taste of Fall, complete with golden mums and turning leaves in shades of red and orange. Here In Finland, the calendar may say that it’s Autumn, but everyone is getting ready for Winter … and the color of Winter is white.


Pots are filled with white mums …


Stores are filled with white accessories …


Florists have stocked up on every white flower imaginable …


Department stores creatively display their white china …


And the Russian merchants have brought out their white furs.
The arrival of the cold, dark, snowy winter doesn’t mean life stops. On the contrary, Finns not only survive, they thrive in winter. Did someone say “Sauna?”
